The 800-pound gorilla is officially awake.

Friday's Washington Post reports that the coal industry is launching a $35 million ad campaign in primary and caucus states to "fuel opposition to legislation that Congress is crafting to slow climate change."

Their billboard, radio and TV ads, and street teams are spreading propaganda about coal-fired electricity and attempting to block our efforts to pass strong global warming legislation this year.

The Post draws a comparison between these ads and a similar ad campaign that stopped the health care debate in the 1990s.

Our planet is at stake. We cannot let powerful special interests stop our momentum for global warming action.
